If there’s one brand that towers above the rest in the watch world, it’s Rolex. That is not subjective and it has been that way for some time. The data published by Morgan Stanley in Feb 2026 demonstrated the crown sitting firmly at the top of the hierarchy. With an estimated 1.1m watches sold throughout 2025, Rolex’s market share sits at a rather healthy 33%. This dominance overshadows all the shady sales practices of false scarcity, inflated demand and controlled supply. The marketing giant clearly has some of the best marketing money can (and can’t, wait and see…) buy.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a casual admirer, the Rolex crown remains the ultimate symbol of prestige, performance, and timeless design. Demand shows no signs of slowing, and rumours of new Rolex releases 2026 are only fueling fresh interest. It is not long until Watches of Wonders 2026, but if you do get the chance to purchase one of their current offerings, it might be wise to snap the sales associates hand off.
With such a vast line-up and so many models carrying cult status, which are the best Rolex watches to collect in 2026? We’ve narrowed it down to five that stand out for their history, design, and long-term desirability.
Before we dive in, we want to be clear – buy any of these watches because you like them, love them and at times lust after them. 2026 is not 2021, the market is different. Whilst the perceived prestige and demand are still vastly higher than supply, aside from the big hitters like the Rolex Submariner, Rolex Daytona and some of the unique Rolex OP colours, the majority can now be purchased relatively quickly from an authorised dealer if you’re prepared for a little wait.
Rolex Submariner Date (ref. 126610LN)
The Submariner needs no introduction. It’s arguably the most recognisable of all the iconic Rolex watches, and in 2026 it remains the cornerstone of many collections Many collectors will weigh up the Rolex date vs no date option, but the debate has no definitive winner. Our selection is clearcut, the date wins.
Why it’s here: The black-dial, black-bezel Submariner Date strikes the perfect balance between tool-watch heritage and luxury refinement. If you’re buying it for enjoyment, you can’t go wrong. If you’re buying it for future monetary gains, It’s arguable one of the best Rolex watches for investment, thanks to rock-solid demand for what is a simple colour scheme of black on black.
We can’t see the Rolex Submariner 2026 update rumours being anything more than a new precious metal variant, or possibly even a new colour. We’ve been hearing that focus may be on a refreshed Rolex GMT Coke variant, but more of that come.

Rolex Daytona (ref. 126500LN)
With its motorsport DNA and enduring Paul Newman connection, the Daytona is still the most hyped chronograph on the planet. It doesn’t matter if you don’t even know who Paul Newman was, what you might know is that the most expensive Rolex sold to date is one his wife gifted him with a personalized engraving on the back!
Anyway, less looking back and more looking forward – The latest generation ref. 126500LN continues the legacy with subtle updates and an in-house calibre 4131.
Why it’s here: It’s the ultimate status chronograph and on top of the Submariner, is always one of the best Rolex to invest in. Waiting lists remain long, but resale values show no sign of softening and it still requires a significant premium over the recommended retail price to purchase from the secondary market.
Investment aside, the ceramic bezels of either the black dial Daytona or the aptly named Panda Daytona really elevates this watch compared to the previous generation of stainless steel Rolex Daytona bezels. They might have a more vintage charm, but are scratch magnets. Personally, if money was no object the Rolex Daytona Le Mans edition still remains as a grail-watch for me and many others. The different? 3 digits of red text on the bezel… the watch world has gone mad and we’re all here for it.
Rolex launched the white gold Daytona (ref. 126529LN) in 2023, the Yellow gold Daytona (ref. 126528LN) in Yellow gold, and in 2025 rounded the precious metals out with an Everose Gold Daytona (reg. 126525LN). Our wild card for 2026 would be a full titanium Rolex Daytona, much like what they did with the Rolex Yacht Master titanium in 2023.

Rolex GMT-Master II “Pepsi” (ref. 126710BLRO)
The two-tone red-and-blue bezel is as iconic as it gets. Originally designed for Pan Am pilots in the 1950s, the GMT-Master II “Pepsi” remains a staple for collectors in 2025.
Why it’s here: It’s one of the best looking Rolex watches, combining travel functionality with unbeatable retro styling. You might notice a trend here, because it is also one of the best Rolex to buy for investment, with high secondary-market premiums.
2026 is believed to be the year of the Rolex Coke. There are numerous rumours (but don’t forget, everyone gets a little excited before Rolex Watches and Wonders 2026 announcements) that the Rolex Pepsi can no longer be ordered from new. Whilst we don’t know if this is officially true, our eyes and ears are peeled to see what comes our in March, but you best believe it will be neigh-on impossible for any of us mere mortals to purchase from a Rolex AD!

Rolex Explorer I (ref.124270)
If you prefer understated tool-watch charm, the Explorer I is hard to beat. At 36mm, it throws back to the proportions of the original models taken (but no Rolex, they were not worn) on Everest! 36mm might be small for some of us, but it does hark back to the era of smaller watches. I am not sure you can beat the simplicity of this model, and the 3-6-9 dial configuration is somewhat iconic. The beauty of the Rolex Explorer range is that it also comes in a 40mm variant, which I believe is the sweet spot. Ref. 224270 is identical to the 36mm model, but proportionally speaking looks the dogs b.
Why it’s here: Simplicity is the Explorer’s strength. It’s one of the best Rolex watches for daily wear, and its heritage as a mountaineer’s companion gives it timeless collectability. Another +1 for the Explorer is that it is a strap monster – put it on a one piece nylon or black/white rubber, and you have the perfect summers watch.

Rolex Day-Date 40 (ref. 228238)
Old school cool – The Rolex Day Date is known as the “President’s Watch,” and this Day-Date is Rolex’s flagship dress model. The 40mm yellow gold version with a fluted bezel remains the reference point for luxury and has always been known as the “you’ve made it” watch.
Why it’s here for our 2026 pick?: It’s the best Rolex watch for those who want prestige and presence. With its day and date complication and gold-only case options, it’s pure Rolex at the top of its game. A little showy, but the appeal to perhaps a slightly more experienced and older demographic demonstrates its longevity.

Honourable mentions
Rolex Yacht-Master 42 Titanium
One of the standout new Rolex releases 2024, combining a lightweight case with sporty versatility. 2 years on, it is still incredible hard to obtain and it still the only titanium rolex that they sell. For this reason alone, the darker grey hue and absolutely stunning and frankly, I wish they gave the Rolex Explorer 2 this treatment in 2026!
Rolex Oyster Perpetual “Celebration Dial”
I know, OP? boring? Plain? Entry level? However, the celebration dial launched a couple of years ago is still a playful, colourful design that’s already proving to be a cult collectible. It is in the 2026 Rolex list because if you want to stand out from the crowds of black and blue dials, this is your number.
Buying tips for Rolex watches in 2026
So, where’s the best place to find the best Rolex watch to buy in 2026?
- Authorised dealers – Still the ideal starting point, though waitlists are long for popular models. The good news is that with Donald’s tariffs, an uncertain world economy, waiting lists are getting shorter. Our advice is to go and try on all the models you like, and get your name on the list early. However, Rolex wait lists for big models such as the Submariner or Daytona remain all but closed and we can’t see this changing in 2026.
- Pre-owned market – A thriving ecosystem exists, with trusted platforms offering vetted pieces. Expect to pay premiums for the hottest models like the Daytona and Pepsi GMT. Our top picks include eBay with their excellent Authenticity Guarantee, Subdial for their collector led watch availability and UK based secondary sellers such as Blowers.
- Auctions – Rare vintage examples and discontinued references often surface here, appealing to serious collectors.
As for pricing, retail ranges from around £6,500 for an Oyster Perpetual up to £30,000+ for precious metal Day-Dates. On the pre-owned market, premiums of 20–100% above retail are common for the most in-demand models.
Final thoughts
Rolex remains the brand against which all others are measured. Whether you’re eyeing the tool-watch purity of the Explorer, the timeless appeal of the Submariner, or the prestige of the Day-Date, there’s a Rolex to suit every collector’s philosophy.
If I had to pick the best Rolex watch for 2026? The classic Submariner still edges it – versatile, iconic, and endlessly collectible. But the real beauty of Rolex is that every model tells a story, and building a collection is about finding the ones that resonate most with you.
